Seven Summer Self-Care Secrets

Updated: Jul 26

Self Care Feels Good!
Self Care Feels Good!

As I write this today on International Self- Care day I would like to congratulate you on taking a moment to read this and prioritizing your wellbeing! Self care is the most important aspect of a healthy happy life; we are the ones that conduct our lives, decide what we put in our body, allow in our mind and hold in our energy field. No one else has a greater impact or power than you! Unfortunately we are never taught proper self-care especially on the emotional/mental levels so here are my 7 top self care secrets

perfect for summertime!

1) Cucumber Cool Down

This may seem ridiculously simple but cucumbers hold a whole lot of magic! Starting with a 2 min morning facial of slicing cucumbers thinly and gentling smoothing over your face or even better leave them on and take 5-15 minutes to meditate. This cool hydration is extremely relaxing and you will not believe what an impact this simple natural practice will have on your skin!

The benefits definitely don't stop there, as cucumbers, being 96% water, are a great form of hydration while providing vitamins such as vitamin K, C, and minerals like potassium and magnesium, which are necessary for bone health, immune function, and blood pressure regulation. They also contain antioxidants such as beta-carotene, flavonoids, and tannins that protect from cellular damage and nurture the body. Add them to your green juice, make some simple spa water with them, or enjoy them as a healthy hydrating snack with a squeeze of fresh lime juice for extra flavor and phytonutrients!

2) The Sacred Hour or 15 minutes For You

I have always lived by what I call "The Sacred Hour," a time that you spend for yourself before beginning your daily responsibilities. Whether this be a physical activity, spending some quiet time in nature, or with your favorite book, taking time for enjoyment at the beginning of the day has a huge impact on your overall health and well-being. Energy is everything, and when you start off in a good feeling flow, it is natural for it to continue and affect the rest of your day. Ever notice why your days seem better when you do your morning practice? It's not a coincidence—it's energy! What if you really feel you can't get up any earlier or have too many responsibilities in the morning to take a whole hour? It's okay; 15 minutes or even just 5 minutes spent in nature, or 2 minutes of gentle stretching with 3 minutes of relaxed breathing or meditation, can positively impact your day and overall well-being. There is so much power in the grounding of a morning routine that just 5 minutes every day can change your life!

3) Water is the Flow of Life

Water is an amazing element that has benefits far beyond hydration. The simple act of consciously drinking water can nourish us energetically. Bathing, showering, swimming, and even just listening to the flow of water can help us to release mentally and emotionally. One of my favorite water meditations is listening to a stream or gentle ocean waves. As you do this, break down a period of life, for example, a year, into 1-month or 2-month segments and kindly ask yourself what was going on in that segment. Then ask, how were you feeling? The gentle asking, along with the water flow, helps you to naturally release any stagnant energy as you gain awareness up into the present moment, and then just enjoy the sound of the eternal flowing of life.

4) Flower Power

Flowers have power; they hold beauty, sacred geometrical formations, symbolize joy, and have uplifting fragrances; all of which greatly contribute to our emotional and energetic peace. Gifting yourself flowers in areas you spend time in is a powerful act of self-love, affirming your worthiness, appreciation, and dedication to your joy and wellbeing.

5) Cleanse Time

Summer is the perfect time to cleanse as the warmer climate supports detoxification. A body cleanse can encompass a much greater healing and release than just the physical nature would suggest. Cleansing can be as simple as eating foods that detoxify, (See resources section at the end of the article) or herbs to cleanse varoius systems of the body. Either way when you hold the intention to release emotionally and energetically as well it can be a very transformative experience and an act of self love.

6) Crystal Energy Healing

Crystals can be a powerful way to work with our chakras to heal, balance, and nourish our energy. Each color, crystal, and chakra (energy centers in the body) relate to different aspects of your well-being. Acquiring a deeper knowledge and understanding of the chakra system and supportive crystals can act as a roadmap for healing, well-being, and personal evolution. Apart from beauty and powerful energy, you can actually hear a soothing, grounding vibration from crystals with proper sound instruments. (See resource links at the end of the article for more information).
